Linear regression is a tool for explaining a linear relationship between a single scalar output variable \( y \) and one or more explanatory variables \( \mathbf{x} \). The model expresses this relationship through parameters \( \mathbf{w} \). This gives rise to the typical representation for linear regression:
\[ \mathbf{\hat{y}} = \sum_{i=1}^N \mathbf{w}^T \mathbf{x}_i \]
